Effective Decision making process

Decision making during meetings.
Decision making in meetings is the democratic way of managing any organisation. During such meetings people come together to discuss about the merits and demerits of any decision and take appropriate decision after free and conducive discussion. Such discussions are meant for specific decision making and are result oriented.

Problem Solving
Define your problem. If the problem is of a wider nature try to break the process. Ask as many specific questions so that the whole components breaks down to its basic components. Try to look at the problem from all sides. When we try to solve any problem with a specific answer in out mind we limit the options. Keeps the means as open as possible.

Many a times identifying the real problem will solve the problem.
In a sky scrapper, when commuters complaint about the slow speed of the lift the Administration dept. started looking out for solutions to improve the speed of the lift. The solutions were not cost effective and lift users kept on complaining. The problem of the Admin Dept. was regular complaints from lift users and not the slow speed of the lift. When the real problem was identified the focus changed and managers started looking out for solutions to reduce the complaints rather than improving the speed of the lift. Admin dept. arranged for big mirrors near the lifts and people kept on looking in to the mirrors and the complaints reduced drastically.

Problem --> Solution
For every problem there is always a solution, provided you know exactly what is the problem and where to look for the solutions.
